With a laser treatment at Skin Improvement Beauty in Amsterdam we can remove your tattoo

For the removal of tattoos, we work at Skin Improvement Beauty in Amsterdam with the Q-Switched Nd: YAG laser. This smart laser emits short pulses of high energy that are then absorbed by the dark pigment of the tattoo. The powerful light beam reaches to about 1.5-2mm depth of the encapsulated ink. The very short laser pulse causes a photoacoustic explosion of energy in the ink of the tattoo, heating only the ink. The “laser shot” breaks open the encapsulation of the ink particles, breaking the ink particles into very small particles. These increasingly smaller ink particles are cleared by the body on their own in the weeks following treatment. After several sessions, the tattoo fades more and more.

For professionally applied tattoos, we need about 6-16 treatments. The number of treatments depends on the complexity of the tattoo. For amateur tattoos, we can sometimes achieve beautiful results in as little as 3-10 treatments.

The practitioner can give a good estimate of the number of treatments needed during an intake.

  • The tattoo laser treatment explained

The following factors affect the sessions required:

    • Color: Laser light is very well absorbed by the colors black and purple. The colors red, pink, yellow, orange and green respond less well or not at all. White unfortunately does not respond at all.
    • Depth: superficial tattoos disappear faster than deeper tattoos.
    • Age of the tattoo: the older the tattoo the fewer treatments are needed.

It is important to keep in mind that in some cases we cannot remove the tattoo completely (100%). Sometimes a minimal residue of ink is still visible after the treatment sessions. Therefore, we also cannot guarantee the complete removal of a tattoo.

The practitioner will first thoroughly disinfect the skin. Next, the laser is set based on the complexity of the tattoo. The laser is then placed just above the tattoo and treatment can begin. The treatment may feel painful. Again, this depends on the complexity of the tattoo.

During the treatment, and white haze develops over the tattoo, this is a desired reaction. After the treatment, this haze recedes and the skin will be somewhat red. The skin may also swell slightly. After treatment, the practitioner applies an antibacterial ointment and the treated area is covered with a gauze.

We can laser a maximum of 10 x 10 cm per treatment. Depending on the area of the tattoo, the treatment takes 15 to 60 minutes. Multiple sessions are required to treat larger tattoos.

  • Treatment Plan

After each treatment, the tattoo becomes less visible. Depending on the complexity of the tattoo, 6-16 treatments are required to achieve a desirable final result. The practitioner will give an assessment about the treatment plan during the consultation. In some cases, a slight haze will remain with the final result. We cannot guarantee complete removal of the tattoo.

  • The result of a tattoo laser treatment at Skin Improvement Beauty in Amsterdam

After each treatment, the tattoo will become lighter and lighter. During a consultation, the practitioner will indicate how many treatments are needed to remove your tattoo. When the tattoo is complex, a slight haze of ink may still remain on the skin. Therefore, we cannot guarantee 100% removal of the tattoo.

It is very important to take good care of the treated area after the laser treatment. Immediately after treatment, the skin may appear red and you may experience slight swelling. After the treatment, you may cool the skin with cold packs from the refrigerator. Make sure the cold packs do not come into direct contact with the skin. Therefore, place a gauze pad between the skin and the cold packs.
