How does rosacea develop?
The exact cause of rosacea is very complex and partly unknown. The barrier function of the epidermis ( upper layer of the skin) is impaired in rosacea and therefore the skin is more sensitive and an inflammatory reaction can occur in the skin.
Reduced barrier function makes the house less able to withstand outside influences. The skin is sensitive to “triggers” resulting in blushing.
Another clue is that the demodex mine is much more present in skin with rosacea than in “healthy” skin. In the skin we find millions of micro-organisms, including fungi and bacteria. It doesn’t sound so fresh, aar it is quite normal and these are really necessary. In the case of rosacea, the Demodex mite would give rise to inflammation in the skin.

- Coffee
- dairy products
- some herbs cause dilation of blood vessels with increased redness as a result
- Stress, and emotions such as shame, anger or fear
- Smoking
- Certain drugs
How can rosacea be treated?
